This is an amazing article from the New Yorker about the psychological effects of long term solitary confinement. Is it torture? If you believe even half of what this article has to say, then yeah, it is. And it's something that literally thousands of American citizens are being subjected to right here in our own country. Scary stuff.
It's a bit wordy, but I urge you to read the whole thing.
